The Jones Co Migrant Inclusion Group is a non-profit organization co-founded by Dr. Keith Stamp (right) and Mary Melchert (left). This group intends to support the Hispanic population in Jones Co with four areas of emphasis: ESL (English as a Second Language), healthcare, financial literacy, and citizenship. Partnering in this effort are Monticello restaurant owners (La Hacienda) Arnulfo & Karen Arriaga. "Their guidance in helping us collaborate with the Hispanic population has been invaluable," said Dr. Stamp. The Jones County Community Foundation was able to award the Jones Co Migrant Inclusion Group a grant to begin their work with ESL classes. The Hispanic population wants to be a valuable asset to our communities. By helping adult Hispanics become proficient in English, they will have much-needed skills in the workplace, in society and at home. Plans for training tutors has started to develop in the new year.
