Hello! My name is Megan Beaman, and I am the new Executive Director of the Monticello Area Chamber of Commerce.
I am originally from Monticello's neighboring town of Hopkinton. However, growing up I spent much time in Monticello visiting family, frequenting spots, and working at Pictured Rocks UM Camp. Currently, I reside just outside of Monticello.
I graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 2018. Shortly after graduation, I obtained my Emergency Medical Technician license and began working and volunteering as an EMT. I continued my education at Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta. While studying at NICC, I stayed active with various student organizations and had the opportunity to travel to Nashville for a volunteer trip in 2019.
After graduation, I took a gap year to focus on gaining experience in the EMS field to become a paramedic. Ultimately, I decided against the field as a career. After making that decision, I transferred to the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Recreation, Tourism, and Nonprofit Leadership. I became the Executive Director of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance on campus and earned my Certified Nonprofit Professional Credential. I graduated with honors in 2023 and moved to Arizona. I had a wonderful opportunity to work for a nonprofit organization within the Coronado National Forest while living in Tucson.
I recently relocated back to Iowa at the beginning of the year and spent the spring season working at Camp Courageous.
I am most excited about this opportunity to learn and apply my educational and work background in a new setting. I am looking forward to meeting the existing and future businesses that have helped to build the community that I grew up in, which will help continue the legacy for those to come.
